Former President Donald Trump was shot yesterday in an attempted assassination as he spoke at his rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. The bullet “pierced” his ear, at which point the former President dropped to the ground, and was within seconds covered by Secret Service agents. A security sniper shot and killed the shooter at about the same time. About a minute or two later, former President Trump stood up surrounded by Secret Service agents. He had two streaks of blood across his right check and a bloodied ear. As the agents started walking him towards safety in a car, former President Trump raised his fist in the air, and mouthed, “fight, fight, fight.” High above him and parallel to the ground was an American flag. This moment was captured by a photographer and is already considered one of the most iconic images of all time.
President Trump says he is doing fine now. However, one man in the audience was killed and two others are currently in the hospital critically injured. Based on reporting, all three were shot by the same man who attempted to assassinate the former president. That man’s identity has been released. He was a local, twenty years old. We won’t mention his name.
An investigation is now in process. The most pressing questions appear to be the following. One, how was the shooter able to get into his position on a rooftop only about 125 yards from the former President? Two, how does the U.S. settle down the emotions that have been boiling up? Conjecture is certainly possible to answer both questions. But for now, we wait to hear for answers to these questions from leaders.
